Parthiv Patel retires
Indian wicket keeper batsman Parthiv Patel announced retirement from all forms of cricket on Wednesday (9 December). The left handed keeper batsman represented India in 25 Tests, 38 ODIs and 2 T20 Internationals.
He has 1706 International runs to his name along with 93 catches and 19 stumpings. He made his International debut in England under Sourav Ganguly as a 17 year old wicket keeper in August 2002 at Nottingham. Weathering the conditions his 19 not out in 60 balls helped India save the Test match. He was Test cricket’s youngest wicket keeper at that time.
Parthiv made his ODI debut the following year against New Zealand at Queenstown. He had to wait till 2011 to make his T20 International debut against West Indies at Port of Spain. He last played for India in a Test match at Johannesburg in January 2018 which came in a winning cause for the team.
The Gujarat based cricketer has had a prolific IPL career spanning 13 seasons. He represented Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore – scoring 2358 runs in 139 matches. He hit 13 half centuries over his IPL career and affected 69 catches & 16 stumpings.
Parthiv was a domestic giant scoring 11,240 First Class runs (194 matches), 5172 List A runs (193 matches) and 4300 T20 runs (204 matches). He led Gujarat to their maiden Ranji Trophy title in the 2016-17 season. He also led Gujarat to their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy win.
