David Warner ruled out of ODI & T20I series
Aussie opener David Warner has been ruled out for the remainder of limited overs matches against India. This comes after sustaining a groin injury during the 2nd ODI against India.
D’Arcy Short replaces the Aussies opener in the upcoming T20I series against India. Short has represented Australia in 20 T20I matches scoring 592 runs at a decent average of 32.88. He last played for Australia in a T20 last year when he faced India at Bengaluru scoring a crucial 40 in 28 balls.
In addition to this exclusion, Australia have rested Pat Cummins from the last ODI & T20I series in order to save him for the Test series against India. Cummins had a lengthy IPL campaign before walking in to the home series. He returned with bowling figures of 3 for 67 after going wicketless in the 1st ODI match.
Test series between Australia and India kicks off in a Day-Night Test at Adelaide on December 17. The team management would be hoping for the return of a fully fit David Warner by then. David Warner is a crucial member of Australia’s red ball team. He scored 693 runs against India at home, at an average of 49.50 and a strike rate of 82.59 – making him one of the dangerous batsmen to counter against the new ball.
Marcus Stoinis who was injured during 1st ODI and missed the 2nd, continues to be with the squad. Mitchell Marsh on the other hand who was supposed to join the Australia A team will continue his rehabilitation from ankle injury he sustained during the IPL. He is expected to make his come back during the BBL with Perth Scorchers.
Davie will work through his injury rehab and in Pat’s case it is important all of our players are managed well to keep them mentally and physically fit throughout what is a challenging summer.
