RR vs RCB, Qualifer 2 – IPL 2022 Report: Royal Challengers Bangalore missed out on a yet another final opportunity as Rajasthan Royals clinched the Battle Royale in Ahmedabad.
Choosing to bowl first, RR pacer Prasidh Krishna removed Virat Kohli for just 7 runs. Rajat Patidar top scored for RCB once again with a 58 off 42 balls as he put on a 70-run stand with captain Faf du Plessis in 8.5 overs. Obed McCoy removed captain Faf in his first spell reducing RCB to 79/2.
Patidar kept the run flow going as Glenn Maxwell took on the RR bowlers smacking a 13-ball 24. A quick 32-run stand in 3.2 overs between Maxwell and Patidar pushed the score to 111 in 14 overs. Trent Boult removed Maxwell in his final over and shortly later Ashwin removed Patidar – thanks to a inches away from boundary catch by Jos Buttler!
Dinesh Karthik couldn’t get the run flow going and RR bowlers took over the situation with quick wickets. Prasidh Krishna got the crucial wickets of Dinesh Karthik and Wanindu Hasaranga who he yorked at 147.6 kmph. Prasidh touched the 150.3 kmph this match and won the Fastest Delivery of the Match award!
McCoy came back to finish his spell and removed Mahipal Lomror and Harshal Patel to restrict RCB to 157/8 in 20 overs. McCoy finished with bowling figures of 4-0-23-3.
Chasing 158 runs to win, RR openers were off to a smashing start! Yashasvi Jaiswal hit Mohammed Siraj for 16 runs off the very first over of the innings to set the base. Buttler and Jaiswal put on a 61-run stand in just 5.1 overs before Hazlewood removed the lefty for 21 runs off 13 balls.
Buttler took over the game from that point on smashing a 23-ball half century as he put on a 52 run partnership with captain Sanju Samson in 6.3 overs. Samson was out for 23 and he was the second highest scorer for RR on the night. Buttler screamed to his fourth century of the season to equal the most centuries in a season record set by Virat Kohli in 2016.
Royals cruised to victory in 18.1 overs as Buttler spanked an unbeaten 106 off 60 balls powered by 10 fours & 6 sixes. Buttler now scored 824 runs in IPL 2022 with one match to go.
This is Royals second ever IPL finals. Their first final came in the inaugural season under the leadership of Shane Warner when they clinched the title.
