MS Dhoni undergoes knee surgery successfully!

Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni recently underwent surgery on his left knee. According to information from both the hospital and sources within the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the surgery was successful, and MS Dhoni is now in excellent health. Initially, it was expected that he would remain hospitalized for an additional two days, but later in the evening, it was revealed that Dhoni had been discharged.

Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of CSK, confirmed that he had spoken to MS Dhoni after the surgery on Thursday morning. “I had a conversation with him after the operation. I am not aware of the specifics of the surgery, but we have been informed that it was a minimally invasive procedure. Dhoni sounded fine during our discussion,” the CSK official stated.

Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, a sports medicine specialist who had previously operated on Rishabh Pant for a similar knee issue, performed the surgery on the 41-year-old MS Dhoni at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. Dhoni’s wife, Sakshi, has been by his side throughout his hospital stay. He was admitted to the hospital on the evening of May 31.

Earlier the CSK management sent their team doctor, Dr. Madhu Thottappil, to Mumbai to oversee MS Dhoni’s treatment. While the exact duration of his full recovery remains unknown, it is anticipated that Dhoni will be back on his feet within approximately two months.

After winning the IPL on Monday night, Dhoni expressed his commitment to returning next year and playing one final season for his loyal fans who supported him throughout the recently concluded IPL season.

According to John Gloster, a former India physiotherapist and the current physiotherapist for the Rajasthan Royals, who has worked closely with Dr. Pardiwala, Dhoni is in capable hands.

“Dr. Dinshaw is an extremely skilled surgeon, especially when it comes to knees and shoulders. We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber in India. He only intervenes when he is confident of achieving significant outcomes,” Gloster shared.

“Dhoni can be assured that he is being treated by such a competent surgeon. I have worked closely with him in the treatment of numerous athletes over the years. Whenever Dinshaw is involved, you can expect a very positive outcome.”

What exactly is a minimally invasive surgery?

A minimally invasive surgery, also known as arthroscopic surgery or keyhole surgery, does not involve fully opening up the knee. Instead, it entails making small incisions at three or four points around the knee, through which cameras and instruments are inserted to perform the necessary procedure within the knee.

Experts state that most knee surgeries these days are performed using arthroscopic techniques. Only in cases of major ligament repairs is open surgery necessary. Since Dhoni’s surgery was performed arthroscopically, it is believed that the recovery and healing time will be under three months.
