South Africa T20I Squad for the tour of India & fixtures announced!

A 16-member South Africa T20I squad has been announced for the 5 match T20I series against India in India. The squad will be led by Temba Bavuma with Mark Boucher as their head coach. Boucher reaffirmed his commitment to the team till the end of 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup.

Tristan Stubbs who is currently playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022, earned a maiden call up to national side. He was the second highest run getter in South Africa’s domestic T20 Challenge. He scored 293 runs at an average of 48.83 powered by an exceptional strike rate of 183.12. The 21-year-old holds a career strike rate of 156.17 and averages 36.14 with the bat.

The squad also sees the return of pacer Anrich Nortje who missed out in recent months due to fitness issues. Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi will be heading the spin department with Aiden Markram offering his part time services. Marcos Jansen who is currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022, has also made it to the squad.

“This is the Proteas like we have not seen them in a long time,” Victor Mpitsang, South Africa’s selection convener said. “The injection of the IPL players means that we will have a team that’s ready to fire on all cylinders immediately and has vast experience of the conditions that we will be playing in. The country can also join us in a collective sigh of relief at the return of Anrich Nortje, who has been working hard to recover from a frustrating injury. The National Selection Panel and I are really excited to watch our full-strength Proteas take on the world’s number one T20 team.”

June 14: 3rd T20I – Vizag

June 17: 4th T20I – Rajkot

June 19: 5th T20I – Bengaluru
