LSG vs KKR – IPL 2022 Report: Super Giants withstand Giant Russell to decimate KKR!

LSG vs KKR, Match 53 – IPL 2022 Report: Lucknow were off to a shocking start when their skipper KL Rahul departed for a diamond duck – direct hit off Shreyas Iyer! Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda resurrected the innings with a fruitful powerplay which produced 66 runs.

de Kock smacked a 28 ball half-century before falling to Sunil Narine. Narine continued his bowling form as he conceded 20 runs in his 4 overs spell while others around him were leaking runs. De Kock and Hooda put on a 71-run partnership for the second wicket.

Andre Russell was brought in to inflict a break through and he got 2 wickets in his first 2 overs – that of Deepak Hooda (41) and Krunal Pandya (25).

LSG were 142-4 in 18 overs and Shivam Mavi was given the ball. Marcus Stonis smacked 3 consecutive sixes before being dismissed on the fourth ball. Jason Holder walked in and hit 2 more sixes off the over to make it a 30 run over! Tim Southee bowled the final over conceding just 4 runs and LSG put a total of 176-7 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 177 runs to win, KKR show cases similar worries with their batting. Mohsin Khan bowled a splendid first over to set the norm. He bowled a maiden and got the wicket of Baba Indrajith. Mohsin just gave away 1 run in his 2 over spell during the powerplay to push KKR on the back foot. He was literally unplayable during his first spell.

Wickets kept falling at regular intervals. KKR were 23/3 at the loss of Aaron Finch in 5.4 overs. Nitish Rana also followed suit as he was foxed by tactful display of bowling by Avesh Khan. KKR were 25/4 in 6.5 overs and in walked Andre Russell.

Russell was severe from the word go. He smacked the bowlers at will for 5 sixes and 3 fours during his 19-ball stay. He banged 45 runs at a strike rate of 236.84 during his stay and brought back the KKR fans on their feet again. In the 13th over of the innings, Avesh Khan got rid of the dangerous Russell after being smashed for a six the very first ball. He bowled a short of length outside off delivery next up to make Russell fetch a pull again but it top-edged and went in to the hands of Jason Holder at third man who ran forward to take a lovely low catch sliding forward.

Narine sizzled briefly but Jason Holder removed his countryman and Southee in back-to-back deliveries to spell doom to KKR. The very next ball a run out meant it is all over for KKR. LSG won the match by a huge margin of 75 runs!
