Earlier Jos Buttler top scored for Rajasthan Royals once again. It wasn’t an easy going half century but he finished it with a flurry of sixes. He targeted young Hrithik Shokeen as he bludgeoned 4 back-to-back sixes before falling to the off-spinner. Runs were hard to come by in the end overs but a 9-ball cameo by R Ashwin helped Rajasthan score 158/6 in 20 overs.
Overseas sign ups Daryl Mitchell (17 in 20 balls) and Shimron Hetmyer (6* in 14 balls) struggled to get going on a sticky wicket.
Chasing 159 runs, captain Rohit Sharma departed early as he fell prey trying to sweep of R Ashwin’s variation. Ishan Kishan showed promise as he struck 4 fours & 1 six before falling to Trent Boult in the final over of powerplay (41/2).
Regular rescue acts – Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma put on a 81-run stand for the third wicket in 56 balls to put MI in advantageous position. Dew set in and it made life difficult for RR bowlers.
Suryakumar scored his third half-century of the season with the help of 5 fours and 2 sixes before trying for a six off Chahal and getting out. Few balls later Prasidh Krishna removed Tilak Varma for 35. (122/4)
With both the set batsmen back to the hut – the onus was on Kieron Pollard and Tim David to take them through. Tim David hit 2 fours and 1 six during his stay which made the equation easier for Mumbai. Pollard struggled once again and he was dismissed by Kuldeep Sen with 4 runs required in the last over.
Daniel Sams walked in after the fall of fifth wicket and wasted no time, as he hit the first ball to a SIX! The fans in the stadium erupted as Mumbai final put some points on board this season.
