PBKS vs CSK, Match 38 – IPL 2022 Report: Being asked to bat first, Punjab Kings put on 187/4 in their full quota of overs – thanks to Shikhar Dhawan’s unbeaten 88, well supported by Bhanuka Rajapaksa who made his come back for Punjab this match. Liam Livingstone’s 7 ball cameo certainly helped the cause.
During his knock, Shikhar Dhawan reached a few milestones. Playing in his 200th IPL match, he brought up 1000 runs against CSK in T20 cricket. The left-handed batsman became the third Indian batsman to reach 9000 T20 runs. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have achieved the field before Shikhar. Dhawan also became the second batsman in IPL history to record 6000 runs.
Chasing 188 runs to win, CSK were in disarray at 40/3 in 7 overs. Ambati Rayudu displayed his vintage style of cricket smacking 78 at 200 strike-rate to tilt the balance of the match! It was back to Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh to deliver at the death and boy have they done! Rababda picked 2 wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad and all important one of Ambati Rayudu in the end overs. Arshdeep conceded just 8 runs in his final over and with Dhoni arriving, Rishi Dhawan bowling his final over, had 27 runs to defend.
Rishi Dhawan made his IPL comeback after a long gap and Dhoni hit him for a six first ball of the final over. Dhawan bowled a wide next ball leaving CSK 20 runs to win in 5 balls. A straight to the bowler dot next ball and wicket of Dhoni the subsequent delivery meant Punjab Kings had the match in the bag. Punjab won the match by 11 runs.
