Brian Lara compares Umran Malik to an express West Indies pacer!
Cricket Legend Brian Lara opined watching Umran Malik in action reminds him of his own playing days and the express pacer reminds him of a pacer who made his debut for West Indies under his leadership.
Lara is currently a part of SRH support staff – batting coach. He express pleasure over his team’s performance and how the team is able to chase down targets with ease.
In the post-match show featuring Neroli Meadows, Kevin Pietersen and Sunil Gavaskar, Lara was asked about the prospects of SRH pacer Umran Malik who has been making waves for his 150 kmph plus pace in every match so far.
“He reminds me of my playing time. During my career, all the greats of the West Indian team were playing. Sir Malcolm Marshall, Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose…different types of bowlers. But he reminds me a lot of Fidel Edwards when he first started – a lot of pace, and I hope he understands that if he goes into international cricket, which I think he will, a lot of batsmen are not that scared of pace. So, I hope he adds a little bit more to his armoury,” Lara said on Star Sports.
But he is a quick learner. He is willing to learn. If you look at him in the nets, he is always asking different questions. It is awesome to see India have a pacer of that caliber,” the Windies great further added.
Umran Malik has swept away all seven fastest delivery of the match award worth 1 lakh INR as he out paced domestic and overseas pacers alike. The express pacer picked 10 wickets in 7 innings so far in IPL 2022 at an average of 21.40 and economy rate of 21.40. He recorded his best of 4/28 against Punjab Kings.
Windies pacer Fidel Edwards made his Test and ODI debut against Brian Lara and has recorded fifers on both occasions. Edwards represented West Indies in 55 Tests, 50 ODIs and 26 T20 Internationals and picked 245 International wickets.
