Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana provided a brisk start to India on a slow wicket at Seddon Park. Shafali started slow but caught up with boundaries. The 18-year-old scored a run a ball 42 with 6 fours and 1 six. Indian openers put on a 74 run stand in 14 overs before Nahida Akter sent Mandana back to the hut scoring 30.
Yastika Bhatia steered the Indian ship as she scored her third ODI half-century. All-rounders Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana helped propel the scoring rate in the end as India set a target of 230 runs to win.
Spinners choked Bangladesh in the chase as they bundled out for just 119 runs. The spin trio of Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Sneh Rana and Poonam Yadav delivered bowling figures of 27-6-70-6 that suffocated Bangladesh in the chase. Gayakwad’s economical bowling figures of 10-4-15-1 didn’t help Bangladesh’s start in the powerplay.
