IPL 2022 – New format & Groups
The format of IPL 2022 edition has been revealed. The teams are divided in to Group A & Group B. The groups were made based on the the criteria like number of IPL titles won and the number of final appearances. Hence, MI and CSK are in 2 different groups.
Each team will play 14 league matches ahead of play-offs. A team will cross swords against five teams twice and four teams once.
The two new entrants Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans are also placed under two different groups.
Here are the groupings for the IPL 2022 edition:
Group A:
Mumbai Indians
Kolkata Knight Riders
Rajasthan Royals
Delhi Capitals
Lucknow Super Giants
Group B:
Chennai Super Kings
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Punjab Kings
Gujarat Titans
Team Fixtures:
Each team will play against their group teams twice. In addition to that they will play one of the teams from the group twice. Against the rest of the teams, they will play once.
The details of which team from another group a team plays twice is given below:
Mumbai Indians from Group A will play twice against CSK from Group B.
Kolkata Knight Riders from Group A will play twice against SRH from Group B.
Rajasthan Royals from Group A will play twice against RCB from Group B.
Delhi Capitals from Group A will play twice against Punjab Kings from Group B.
Lucknow Super Giants from Group A will lock horns twice with Gujarat Titans from Group B.
IPL 2022 Dates:
The 2022 edition of TATA Indian Premier League will begin on March 26 while the finals is set to take place on May 29.
A total of 74 matches including the playoffs will be featured in the upcoming edition of IPL.
All sides will play four matches each at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium. Each team will feature in 3 matches apiece at Brabourne Stadium and MCA International Stadium (Pune).
