KKR: IPL 2024 Champions!
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clinched the IPL 2024 championship by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the grand finale at MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, May 26. KKR bowlers ripped through the SRH batting attack after being put to field first.
Mitchell Starc struck crucial blows in the powerplay by removing Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi while Vaibhav Arora removed Travis Head for a golden duck. Every KKR bowler got at least a wicket as Sunrisers were bowled out for just 113 runs in 18.3 overs – the lowest ever score in IPL finals! Captain Pat Cummins top scored for his team with 24 runs.
KKR chased the target with 57 balls to spare as Venkatesh Iyer recorded his 4th consecutive half century in Playoffs. He secured the winning runs for the team in the 11th over. This is KKR’s 3rd IPL title – they previously won in the 2012 and 2014 seasons!
