SRH vs PBKS, Match 70 – IPL 2022 Report: Sunrisers Hyderabad could manage 157 runs in their full quota of overs. Spinner Harpreet Brar picked 3 wickets to dent SRH down to 96/5 in 14.4 overs. He got the wickets of Abhishek Sharma (43), Rahul Tripathi (20) and Aiden Markram (21). Washington Sundar and Romario Shepherd resurrected the innings with a 58-run stand in 4.5 overs for the sixth wicket to take the score over 150. 3 wickets fell in the 20th over of the innings with Nathan Ellis picking 2 wickets in 2 balls followed by a run out of Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 1 run.
Chasing 158 runs to win, Punjab Kings were always in attacking gear. Jonny Bairstow (23 off 15) smacked 5 fours in his brief stay till 3 overs – taking the team score to 28/1 before being bowled out to Fazalhaq Farooqi. He was dropped by Umran Malik in the bowling of Washington Sundar when he was on the score of 20 off 9 balls.
Shahrukh Khan walked in at No.3 which was usually the batting slot for Bhanuka Rajapaksa. He went attacking from the word go – as he smacked 10 ball-19 runs with the help of 2 fours & 1 six. Umran Malik removed Sharukh Khan as the scored read 66/2 in 6.3 overs.
PBKS were never below the required run rate as Shikhar Dhawan also unleashed himself in the powerplay scoring 24* off 14 balls. He was later joined by Mayank Agarwal who was rattled by Umran Malik’s rib crusher. He perished scoring just 1 run.
Liam Livingstone who walked in next – smacked a six the first ball he faced – a gigantic one! He was dropped by Sundar the next ball he faced off Umran Malik on the score of 6*(2). He was later dropped again when he was on 26*(15) once again by Washington Sundar off the bowling of Jagadeesha Suchith.
Shikhar Dhawan who kept the strike rotation going – was Farooqi’s second victim. In came Jitesh Sharma who unleash attack mode as it was dinner as usual for the Punjabi batters tonight! He smacked 3 fours and 1 six during his 7-ball stay – smacking 19 runs. Punjab were already 133/5 in 14 overs at his exit, needing 25 more runs to win in 36 balls.
Romario Shepherd was introduced in to the attack to bowl and Livingstone went nuts – wd-4-0-2-6-4-6 – a 23 run over including the tournament’s 1000th six this season! Debutant Prerak Mankad hit the winning runs off the very first ball he faced in IPL career. He hit lofted a length ball by Umran Malik over the covers to seal the game in style with a boundary!
