PBKS vs RR – IPL 2022 Report: Southpaws chase it down for the Royals!
PBKS vs RR, Match 52 – IPL 2022 Report: Rajasthan Royals chased down the target of 190 runs against Punjab Kings to stabilize their position in Top 3 on points table.
Earlier Punjab Kings chose to bat and Jonny Bairstow shined as an opener as he recorded his first half-century of the season. Yuzvendra Chahal dented the Punjab innings with 3 wickets – removing Bairstow, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and captain Mayank Agarwal who walked in to bat at No.4.
Late slog in the last 5 overs by Jitesh Sharma and Liam Livingstone powered Punjab to a formidable total of 189 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Jitesh Sharma remained unbeaten on 38 off 18 deliveries. He tonked 4 fours & 2 sixes during his stay.
Chaisng 190 to win, Rajasthan Royals restored their original opening combination of Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The duo spanked 46 runs in 4 overs before Jos Buttler was removed by Kagiso Rabada in a dramatic high scoring over – 6 4 4 2 4 W!
Captain Sanju Samson kept the run flow going as Rajasthan Royals stood over the required run rate. Samson scored a 12-ball 23 before mistiming a slog off Rishi Dhawan’s bowling. Yashasvi Jaiswal recorded his highest IPL score of 68 – his 2nd half-century in the tournament history.
Arshdeep Singh was introduced by Mayank Agarwal to cut down the runs in end overs and he did the trick by removing Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal. West Indian cricketer Shimron Hetmyer continued his merry run in butchering the balls in the slogs to play the finishing role again.
Hetmyer finished the match with ease as he smacked 3 fours and 2 sixes to take his team across the line with a 16-ball 31*. RR finished the chase with 2 balls to spare.
