LSG vs RCB, Eliminator – IPL 2022 Report: Rajat Patidar show eliminates LSG
LSG vs RCB, Eliminator – IPL 2022 Report: Royal Challengers Bangalore defended a total of 207 to make it to qualifier 2 in IPL 2022. Earlier, after a delayed start due to weather conditions at Eden Gardens, LSG skipper KL Rahul won the toss and elect to bowl.
LSG began well when their bowling find of the season Mohsin Khan got rid of captain Faf du Plessis for a golden duck. Rajat Patidar who didn’t get to bat the previous fixture against Gujarat Titans, walked in to bat at No.3. He put on a 66-run stand with Virat Kohli in 7.4 overs. Avesh Khan removed Kohli and Krunal Pandya removed Glenn Maxwell in quick succession to dent RCB run flow.
Rajat Patidar continued his attacking game as he brought up his half century in 28-balls. In the 14th over Ravi Bishnoi removed Mahipal Lomror for 14 runs to reduce RCB to 115/4 in 13.1 overs. In came RCB’s all weather man Dinesh Karthik with 6.5 overs remaining in the innings.
Patidar unleashed himself on to Ravi Bishnoi in his final over smacking a 6-4-6-4-6 to propel RCB to 150 in 16 overs. 2 overs later Patidar smacked a six off Mohsin Khan who was LSG’s best bowler of the night to bring up his maiden T20 century – What an occasion to achieve it!
Patidar became the first ever uncapped batsman to record a century in IPL Playoffs/ knock out matches. He brought up his century in 49 balls. This was also the first ever century by any batsman in IPL Eliminator match.
On the other end Dinesh Karthik began his destructive job as he smacked 5 fours and 1 six during his stay. Dushmantha Chameera who was brought in for Jason Holder, conceded 54 runs in his 4 over spell and went wicketless while Avesh Khan conceded 13 runs in the final over of the innings as RCB scored 207/4 in 20 overs.
LSG lost Quinton de Kock the very first over of the innings to Mohammed Siraj. Manan Vohra walked in to bat for the first time in IPL 2022. He scored a 11-ball 19 before falling to Josh Hazlewood – LSG 41/2 in 4.3 overs.
Deepak Hooda and captain KL Rahul stabilized the innings as they put on a 96-run partnership for the third wicket. Hooda smashed 4 sixes during his knock of 45 off 26 balls and he was bowled out by Wanindu Hasaranga. The new man in ended Hasaranga over with a SIX and LSG needed 65 runs to win in the last 30 balls of the innings.
Siraj conceded 10 runs in the 16th over while Hasaranga conceded 14 runs in the 17 over as 41 runs were required to win by LSG in the last 3 overs of the match. Harshal Patel still got 2 overs at this stage of the match.
Harshal Patel began the over with 6 wides off the first 2 balls and came back well with 2 back-to-back dot deliveries. Stoinis succumbed to the pressure and was caught at the fence by batting star of the night Rajat Patidar. Harshal conceded just 8 runs off the 18th over which meant Lucknow need 33 runs off the last 2 overs.
Josh Hazlewood was entrusted with the penultimate over of the innings and he conceded just 9 runs after bowling 3 wides and got big wickets of KL Rahul (79) and Krunal Pandya (0) in 2 consecutive deliveries.
Dushmantha Chameera and Evin Lewis needed 24 runs to win off the final over and Chameera hit a 6 off the 3rd delivery to keep LSG in the hunt. 16 runs were required of the last 3 balls and Harshal conceded 1-0-0 to seal a 14-run win for RCB.
Royal Challengers Bangalore will face Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier in Ahmedabad on 27th May.
