RR vs GT – IPL 2022 Report: Gujarat Titans back to winning ways

RR vs GT – Match 24 – IPL 2022 Report: Gujarat Titans reigned supreme against Rajasthan Royals to take back the pole position in points table of IPL 2022.

Losing two wickets early in the powerplay, the onus was on captain Hardik Pandya to deliver and he obliged. Pandya smashed his highest score as T20 captain with the help of 8 fours & 4 sixes, improving on his batting show as compared to a slow half-century against Sunrisers.

Abhinav Manohar held the other end superbly with a fine knock of 43 as he put on a 86 run stand in 55 balls for the fourth wicket. David Miller unleashed his potent slog as he smacked 31 runs at a strike rate of 221.43 to help Gujarat Titans to 192-4 along with captain Pandya who remained unbeaten on 87.

Chasing 193 runs to win, Jos Buttler wreaked havoc by smashing a half-century with in the powerplay. Royals surprised the fans again by bringing in Ashwin at the fall of Devdutt Padikkal who went out for a duck in the bowling of debutant Yash Dayal.

Lockie Ferguson’s introduction in the fifth over changed the tide as he removed both Ashwin and Buttler to put Royals on the back foot. Soon after a superb throw from captain Hardik Pandya removed the RR skipper Sanju Samson for 11 runs. Shimron Hetmyer slogged his way through but fell to Mohammed Shami. No other batsman looked threatening enough to challenge the mighty Gujarat bowling attack.

Neesham who replaced injured pacer Trent Boult managed just 17 runs with the bat before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya. Debutant Yash Dayal picked 3 wickets in the end to help his team to a 37-run win. Kiwi pacer Ferguson picked 3 wickets in the match conceding less than 6 runs an over.
