Rajasthan Royals tried out R Ashwin at No.3 and he hit 4 fours during his 9 ball stay before Siraj got him caught and bowled. The very next ball of the next over Josh Hazlewood got the price wicket of Jos Buttler and RR were reduced to 33/3 in 4.1 overs.
Captain Sanju Samson showed some class but repeated reverse sweep attempts in the bowling of Wanindu Hasaranga cost him. Riyan Parag and debutant Daryl Mitchell put on 31 run stand for the fifth wicket but Hazlewood removed Mitchell for 16 in 24 balls.
Hetmyer didn’t last long and RR were in disarray at 102/6. Trent Boult fell soon at 110/7 and it was all up to Riyan Parag to rescue Royals in the last 17 balls of the innings and boy did he rescue!
Parag smacked his second IPL half-century and closed the innings with a six. He hit 4 sixes in his knock and the strike rate of 180.65 was higher than any other batter this innings.
Chasing 145 runs to win, Virat Kohli had a edgy start. He hit 2 fours off Trent Boult but fell to Prasidh Krishna the very next over. Comeback pacer Kuldeep Sen removed Faf and Maxwell in 2 deliveries and wreaked havoc amongst RCB camp as the score read as 37/3 in 6.3 overs.
Shahbaz Ahmed and Rajat Patidar put on a 23-run stand to stabilize the innings but R Ashwin struck a blow by bowling out Patidar reducing RR to 58/4. Ashwin got his second wicket in the form of Suyash Prabhudessai as the score read 66/5. This was the off-spinner’s 150th wicket in IPL. Ashwin picked three wickets in the end while Kuldeep Sen picked 4 wickets to close RCB’s innings at 115 runs.
