GT vs SRH – IPL 2022 Report: Six, Six & Win!

GT vs SRH, Match 40 – IPL 2022 Report: Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans featured in a humdinger of a last ball finish at Wankhede Stadium. Gujarat inflicted pain upon SRH with the former Hyderabad franchise players.

Earlier, Gujarat won the toss and put SRH to bat for the first time this season. Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram recorded half-centuries to power Sunrisers to a decent score and it was Shashank Singh batting for the first time in IPL who made the difference to the final score. Singh smashed Lockie Ferguson to 3 sixes off the final over to push SRH to 195/6 in 20 overs.

Chasing 196 runs to win, former SRH wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha was off to a attacking start as he powered to a 28-ball half century. The 69-run partnership between Saha and Gill was the first 50+ partnership for the opening wicket for Gujarat Titans.

Meanwhile SRH express pacer Umran Malik struck fiery blows as he snapped a five-wicket haul in his 4 overs spell. Of the 5 wickets, 4 were bowled out!

It all came down to iceman Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan to deliver with the bat. Tewatia struck 4 fours and 2 sixes in his knock of 40* while Rashid made the difference in the end as Titans needed 22 runs to win of the final over by Marco Jansen.

Tewatia hit the first ball for a six and picked a single next ball. GT needed 15 runs to win 4 balls and the very next ball Rashid Khan announced himself with a straight six. With 9 runs required in 3 balls to win, Jansen bowled a away-angler which Rashid Khan couldn’t put bat on ball to.

9 runs required in 2 balls – Rashid Khan hit a six towards the long boundary to a low full toss! It all came down to 1 delivery and GT needed 3 runs to win. Jansen pitched it short on the legside and Rashid Khan pulled it away over the fine leg fielder who attempted to grab it but in vain. The ball sailed over the boundary and the stadium erupted with Gujarat fans celebrating a memorable win against a formidable Sunrisers team!
