Simon Katich quits from SRH role

Sunrisers Hyderabad have officially confirmed the exit of assistant coach Simon Katich. As per  the franchise reports, Katich has parted ways with the franchise due to bio-security restrictions and family issues.

The former Australian cricketer is now replaced by Simon Helmot. 50-year-old Helmot is the first ever coach of BBL team Melbourne Renegades. He previously was a part of SRH coaching staff from 2012 to 2019. He coached the Trinbago Knight Riders to CPL title win in 2015.

“He would have been needed for two and half to three months here, including for the pre-IPL camps and he felt it was too long to be inside a controlled bio-bubble. He has also mentioned about family issues and we have agreed to release him,” a franchise spokesman told regarding the exit of Simon Katich.

46-year-old Katich was previously associated with Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore in coaching roles. Meanwhile, reports from Australian media have suggested that Simon Katich was not happy with the way the franchise decisions were taken at the auction table and how the pre-auction plans were disregarded.

SRH finished bottom in IPL 2021 after five straight years of making it to the playoffs including 2 finals. Previously, David Warner had a ugly fallout with the franchise last year leading to axing from the side midway through the season. The franchise also parted ways with coach Trevor Bayliss and assistant coach Brad Haddin at the end of the year leading to a major rejig of support staff which now included the likes of Brian Lara and Hemang Badani.
