Australia white ball squad against Pakistan announced

Australia announced 16-member-squad for the limited over series of the tour of Pakistan. David Warner and the pace trio of Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins are rested for the white ball series.

Aaron Finch will lead the team and one of Alex Carey or Josh Inglis will keep wickets as Matthew Wade who was recently picked by Gujarat Titans is rested.

Pace battery is enriched by the presence of Sean Abbott, Jason Behrendorff and Nathan Ellis in the absence of the trio.

Even though Warner and the three pacers are not part of the limited overs series, they are set to miss the first week of Indian Premier League owing to Cricket Australia’s policy of not allowing contracted players to feature in other tournaments while the national team is in action. The players will be available to play the IPL from April 6 after the completion of quarantine requirements.

However, non-contracted players such as Daniel Sams, Tim David, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Riley Meredith will be free to join their respective IPL teams.

“We have picked a talented and versatile squad with a number of challenges to juggle, including the tour structure of predominantly 50 over games, management of several multi-format players in the medium to long term; and our need to build experience and depth in preparation for two short-form World Cups within the next 18 months,” National Selector George Bailey said in a statement.

“We’re confident the squad can both compete successfully on this tour and continue our progress towards those crucial tournaments.”, opined George Bailey.
