Australia Playing XI for first Ashes Test
Australia announced their starting XI for the first Ashes Test against England at the Gabba. Travis Head made his way to the team pipping Usman Khawaja out.
Mitchell Starc who had a shaky Test year has also made his way to the playing XI. The pace battery is equipped with Josh Hazlewood, captain Pat Cummins and Starc.
Nathan Lyon is the lone specialist spinner with Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head who can roll their arm if required.
David Warner will be opening the innings with Marcus Harris and Alex Carey took over the wicket keeping duties from Tim Paine.

David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith (vice-captain), Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wicket-keeper), Pat Cummins (captain), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
Meanwhile England captain Joe Root said the team will wait to announce their XI.
“We’ve got all the options on the table (but) we’re not going to name a team just yet,” Root said. “We’ll have to see the closer forecast and how that pitch changes over the next couple of days.
“But it’s a great place to play spin. It’s something we’ll weigh up and consider, but we’re not in a position to make that call right now.”
