Three-time IPL champion Chennai Super Kings entered the IPL finals for the ninth time after they clinched a last ball thriller against Delhi Capitals. Delhi posted a score of 172-5 in 20 overs after efforts from Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer. Chasing 173 runs to win – CSK lost Faf du Plessis in the first over as Anrich Nortje cleaned him up with the score on 3/1 in 0.4 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa dominated the proceedings since then by putting up a 110 run partnership in 77 balls.
Uthappa finally struck form and paid the faith put in him after being backed up to play at No.3. Ruturaj Gaikwad took the game deep before falling prey to Avesh Khan. The climax of the show was provided by captain MS Dhoni who struck an unbeaten 18 run score in just 6 balls to help his team to a win with 2 balls remaining. CSK needed 13 runs to win in the last over bowled by Tom Curran.
