RCB vs GT – IPL 2022 Report: Welcome back King Kohli!
RCB vs GT, Match 56 – IPL 2022 Report: Virat Kohli depicted his best show of the season to help Royal Challengers Bangalore to a crucial win which keeps them alive in the tournament. The fixture between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals becomes crucial for RCB fans as a Mumbai win will guarantee them a berth for playoffs.
RCB removed two top order batters in the powerplay in the form of Shubman Gill and Matthew Wade to reduce Gujarat Titans to 38/2 in 5.2 overs. Gill was removed by Hazlewood – thanks to a brilliant one-handed catch by Glenn Maxwell in the slip. Wade’s LBW dismissal raised a few brows as the snicko failed to record an edge but replays showed a deflection and deviation on to the pads from the bat area. Maxwell got the wicket of Wade in a maiden-wicket effort.
Wriddhiman Saha sizzled during his stay of 31 off 22 balls but was run out unfortunately as a throw from Faf du Plessis hit the stumps direct. It was Hardik Pandya’s call but Saha had to face the consequences.
Captain Hardik Pandya and David Miller put on a 61-run stand in 7.5 overs for the fourth wicket to keep the run flowing going. Gujarat lost Miller and Tewatia in span of 7 deliveries reducing them to 132-5 in 17.3 overs.
The final slog was provided by Rashid Khan and Pandya who put on a 35-run stand in just 2.3 overs. Rashid hit 2 sixes and 1 four during his 19* off 6 balls while Hardik brought up his half-century and remained unbeaten on 62 off 47 deliveries. GT scored 168 runs in their full quota of overs.
Chasing 169 runs to stay alive in the tournament, RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis gave a good start to the team in powerplay – 55/0. Virat displayed his best show of the season with a smashing 73 off 54 balls with the help of 8 fours and 2 sixes. Meanwhile captain Faf was dismissed by Rashid Khan for 44 – a brilliant supporting knock. The duo put on a 115-run stand for the first wicket in 14.3 overs.
Maxwell walked in at one down when RCB required 54 runs to win in 33 balls. He simplified the equation with his range of power hitting. He bashed 5 fours and 2 sixes during his unbeaten knock of 40 off just 18 deliveries to help RCB to win with 8 balls to spare!
