1) First Wicket Keeper To Lead India In Tests

He became the first ever wicket keeper in Indian cricket to lead India in tests. He led 60 tests as a wicket keeper captain which is the highest by any wicket keeper captain in tests. After him is Mushfiqur Rahim with 28 tests as wicket keeper captain.

2) Dhoni’s Record at Hamilton

Dhoni became the first Indian captain to win a test match in New Zealand after a gap of 33 years with his victory at Hamilton against New Zealand.

3) Dhoni’s First Interest In Sports

Before cricket, when Dhoni was young his initial interest was in football and he liked to play as a goal keeper. He was also interested in badminton.

4) Dhoni Has Won ICC ODI Player Of The Year Twice

Dhoni has won the ICC Player Of The Year award twice in 2008 and 2009.

Dhoni was honored with the rank of Lt Colonel by the Indian Territorial Army in 2011.

6) First Tournament Win As a Captain

In his first tournament as a captain he led India to the finals of the T20 World Cup and succeeded in winning it.

7) Only Captain To Win 3 ICC Trophies

In 2013, India won the Champions Trophy under Dhoni’s captaincy thus making him the only captain to win 3 ICC Trophies ( T20I World Cup in 2007, ODI World Cup in 2011, Champions Trophy in 2013).

8) Dhoni’s Habit Of Winning Awards

Dhoni has won many awards such as : Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2007-2008, Padma Shri award in 2008, and Padma Bhushan award in 2018.

9) Dhoni Is A Huge Fan Of John Abraham

Dhoni’s long hairs during the initials years of his international cricket career were inspired by John Abraham. In 2010, he even made a cameo appearance in the film hook ya crook alongside John Abraham but the film unfortunately never released.

10) Dhoni’s Highest ODI Score

His unbeaten 183 he scored against Sri Lanka in Jaipur in 2005 is the highest score by a wicket-keeper in ODI cricket.
