Highlights: Rohit Sharma’s fastest T20I century in 35 balls

Scenario:

December 22, 2017 – India won the first T20I match against Sri Lanka at Cuttack and stage was set for the second match of the series at Indore.

Sri Lankan captain Thisara Perera won the toss and asked India to bat first. India opened the innings with captain Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

India were off to a stead start with the team putting 26 runs in the first 4 overs. The gears changed quickly here on. Rohit Sharma took on the Lankan bowlers along with KL Rahul. Team India brought up their 50 in 5.3 overs.

Rohit Sharma reached his half century in 23 balls as he bludgeoned Asela Gunaratne for 21 runs in his first over. Team India brought up their 100 in 8.4 overs.

While KL Rahul was slowly approaching his half century – Rohit Sharma went severe on captain Thisara Perera hitting him for 4 Sixes in an over – taking his score to 97* in 34 balls.

Needing a boundary to equal the fastest century record in T20 Internationals held by David Miller, Rohit dispatched a full and wide delivery by Angelo Mathews over the cover for a four! The record is now equaled!!

Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 118 runs in 43 balls – as KL Rahul powered his way to 89 runs in 49 balls.

Team India registered a massive score of 260/5 in 20 overs – 13.00 runs per over. Sri Lanka was bowled out for 172 runs in the chase. Kusal Perera’s fighting knock of 77 runs in 37 balls was the highlight. Spinners Kuldeev Yadav (3/52) and Yuzvendra Chahal (4/52) shared 7 wickets between them.

India clinched the match by 88 runs and secured the T20I series with one match to go!
