IPL 2021: SRH vs RCB Match Report

RCB recorded their second win in a row in IPL 2021 after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by just 6 runs on a tricky wicket.

Earlier, SRH won the toss and chose to bowl. SRH replaced Mohammad Nabi with Jason Holder and Sandeep Sharma with Shahbaz Nadeem. RCB replaced Rajat Patidar with Shahbaz Ahmed.

Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli walked in to open the innings for RCB.

In the 3rd over Bhuvi bowled a back-off length ball which Padikkal smashed towards Shahbaz Nadeem as he took a good catch. Gone for 11 runs from 13 balls including 2 fours. RCB were 19/1 at this point. Shahbaz Ahmed walked in.

In the 7th over bowled by Shahbaz Nadeem, Ahmed dragged the ball away to leg side where Rashid Khan took a stunning catch. Dismissed for 14 runs from 10 balls including 1 six. RCB were 47/2 at this point. Glenn Maxwell walked in at No.4 again ahead of AB.

In the 13th over, Virat Kohli looked to hit Jason Holder’s ball over leg side but got a top edge as Vijay Shankar kept his eyes on the ball and took a very good catch. Dismissed for 33 runs from 29 balls including 4 fours. RCB were 91/3 at this point. AB de Villiers walked in.

In the 14th over, AB looked to hit Rashid Khan’s ball through covers but didn’t get proper distance and gave away his wicket in to the hands of David Warner at short cover. Dismissed for 1 runs from 5 balls. RCB were 95/4 at this point. Washington Sundar walked in.

In the 15th over, RCB completed 100 runs via a four hit by Sundar with the team at 96 runs.

In the 16th over Rashid bowled a googly to Sundar which he looked to smash over long-on but mistimed it as Manish Pandey came in running towards the ball and took a brilliant catch diving forwards. Dismissed for 8 runs from 11 balls including 1 four – R CB were 105/5 at this point. Dan Christian walked in.

In the 17th over, Natarajan bowled to Dan round the wicket where he attempted to hit but the ball went straight into the keeper’s gloves. A huge appeal of an outside edge was suggested and the umpire lifted his finger. Dan took the DRS and the replays confirmed that the bat had hit the ball – dismissed for 1 run from 2 balls. RCB were 109/6 at this point. Kyle Jamieson walked in.

The last over was bowled by Jason Holder. He took Jamieson’s wicket on the first ball as the batsman lofted the ball over mid on but didn’t achieve enough distance and Pandey took the catch at long-on. Dismissed for 12 runs from 9 balls including 2 fours. RCB were 137/7 at this point. Harshal Patel walked in. The 2nd ball was a dot ball. On the third ball, Maxwell ran for 2 runs and completed his half-century in just 38 balls including 5 fours and 2 sixes. The next ball which was supposed to be the 4th ball was a wide. On the 4th ball Maxwell smashed the ball over mid-wicket for a maximum. The next ball was a wide again. On the 5th ball, they ran 2 runs. The last ball was a wide again. The final ball, Maxwell tried to hit a boundary but an outside edge sent the ball straight into the Keeper’s hands. Dismissed for 59 runs from 41 balls including 5 fours and 3 sixes.

RCB scored 149/8 in 20 overs. SRH needed to score 150 runs in 20 overs to win.

Chasing 150 runs, SRH sent David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha to open.

In the 3rd over bowled by Siraj, Saha cut the ball hard towards backward point but found Glenn Maxwell there who took the catch flawlessly. Dismissed for 1 run from 9 balls. SRH were 13/1 at this point.

By the end of the power play, SRH completed 50 runs.

In the 8th over bowled by Washington Sundar, David Warner and Manish Pandey completed their 50 run partnership in just 36 balls. Manish scored 26 runs from 20 balls while Warner scored 30 runs from 17 balls in the partnership. SRH were 65/1 at this point.

In the 13th over bowled by Dan Christian, David Warner completed his half-century in just 31 balls including 7 fours and 1 six. SRH were 91/1 at this point.

In the 14th over Kyle Jamieson bowled a slower short ball to Warner which he looked to slam over long on but mistimed it as the ball went straight into Dan Christian’s hands. Dismissed for 54 runs from 37 balls including 7 fours and 1 six. SRH were 96/2 at this point and needed 54 runs from 40 balls. Jonny Bairstow walked in.

On the last ball of the 14th over, Bairstow hit a four by which SRH completed 100 runs and needed 50 runs from 36 balls.

On the first ball of the 17th over Shahbaz Ahmed bowled a delivery in middle which Bairstow tried to slog but a huge top edge led the ball to fly high in the air. ABD ran towards the ball and took a good catch to dismiss Bairstow for 12 runs from 13 balls which had 1 four. Abdul Samad walked in. The next ball, Manish, played a similar shot as Bairstow, resulting in the same consequence of the ball flying high in the air as Harshal Patel took a comfortable catch. Dismissed for 38 runs from 39 balls including 2 fours and 2 sixes. Vijay Shankar walked in. Shahbaz was on a hattrick but couldn’t pull it off. The last ball of the over Samad tried to play it across the line but the ball swung high in the air and straight into the hands of Shahbaz. Gone for a duck from 2 balls. SRH were 116/5 at this point and needed 34 runs from 18 balls. Jason Holder walked in.

On the last ball of the 18th over, Harshal Patel attained his first wicket of the match by dismissing Vijay Shankar, by a slower delivery in the middle which Shankar flicked away to mid-wicket where Virat came running towards the ball and grabbed it safely. Dismissed for 3 runs from 5 balls. SRH were 123/6 at this point and needed 27 runs from 12 balls. Rashid Khan walked in.

Rashid Khan opened his account with a six over the deep backward point boundary. Khan kept the run flow going with the required run rate climbing each ball.

On the 3rd ball of the 19th over bowled by Mohammad Siraj, Holder smashed the ball over long-on but didn’t time it well due to lack of pace as the ball landed into Dan Christian’s hands. Dismissed for 4 runs from 5 balls. Only 2 runs were taken in during the remainder of the over. SRH needed 16 runs from the final over.

Harshal Patel bowled the final over. The first ball they ran for a single and the second for 2 runs. The third ball was a no-ball which Rashid smacked for a four. SRH were rewarded with a free hit but Rashid couldn’t connect his bat to the ball. The free hit went all in vain. The next ball was a short ball which Rashid pulled through mid-wicket. They ran for a single and then came back for a 2 but Rashid didn’t reach his crease in time and got run out by Siraj. Dismissed for 17 runs from 9 balls including 1 four and 1 six. To make matters worse the umpire called it a run short and hence SRH needed 8 runs to win in 2 balls.

Shahbaz Nadeem walked in. The 5th ball was a short delivery by Harshal which Nadeem looked to pull but a top edge sent the ball towards Shahbaz Ahmed who took a good catch. Dismissed for a duck from 1 ball. Bhuvneshwar Kumar walked in. 8 runs were needed from 1 ball. Bhuvi took just a single on the last ball.

RCB won by 6 runs.
