PBKS vs GT – IPL 2022 Report: A Rahul Tewatia stunner again!
PBKS vs GT – Match 16 – IPL 2022 Report: Absolute thriller of a finish at Brabourne Stadium as the match was decided by last two ball sixes hit by Rahul Tewatia who made it his duty to inflict pain on Punjab franchise. Last time round the victim was Sheldon Cottrell at Sharjah – this time it was another Windies cricketer Odean Smith’s turn.
Earlier Punjab Kings put 189-9 on board – thanks to yet another Liam Livingstone masterclass (21-ball fifty), but the lower middle order collapse didn’t help the cause but for the 27-run stand for the tenth wicket between Rahul Chahar (22*) and Arshdeep Singh (10*). Rashid Khan picked three wickets to engineer the collapse along with debutant Darshan Nalkande who picked 2 wickets in 2 balls – that of Jitesh Sharma and Odean Smith (golden duck)
Chasing 190 runs to win, Shubman Gill continued his merry run of form as he top scored for his team with a well compiled 96 runs. Debutant Sai Sudharsan scored 35 runs as he put on a 101-run stand with Gill for the second wicket that put Gujarat in an advantageous position. It all came down to last three deliveries as Titans needed 13 runs to win with David Miller on strike. Miller hit one back to the bowler Odean Smith but Smith tried inflicting a run out at non-strikers end and conceded a single. This meant Titans needed 12 runs in 2 balls with Rahul Tewatia on strike. Tewatia obliged and sent two back to back sixes to take Gujarat to an astounding victory!
