IPL 2021 – Slow Over Rate Penalty Rules
IPL governing body has set clear rules in case of slow over rates by a team. The captain can be fined up to 30 lakh INR fine in event of such offence.
As per the new rules a team can’t take more than 90 minutes to finish an innings. This includes two strategic time-outs of 2 and half minutes each. So realistically a team has 85 on-field minutes to finish an innings.
Here are the following fine sanctions based on the offence.
First Offence:
12 lakh INR fine for the captain
Second Offence:
24 lakh INR fine for the captain
Or
6 lakh INR or 25% match fee fine (which ever is lesser) for each member of the team excluding captain.
Third and Each Subsequent Offence:
30 lakh INR fine and one-match ban for the captain
Or
12 lakh INR or 50% match fee fine (which ever is lesser) for each member of the team excluding the captain.
IPL Governing Body also set in rules to keep a check on captain withdrawing from leadership role to avoid the third offence.
In such case if the skipper leaves captaincy to avoid the third offence and the subsequent one-match ban, he will continue to receive aforementioned sanctions unless BCCI has in writing about the confirmed change in captaincy.
